The Congo Nile Trail is one of the best hiking trails in Rwanda. The 227 km long trail runs from Rubavu, on the northern edge of Lake Kivu, to Rusizi, on the western side of the country. The trail offers breathtaking scenic views, including the beautiful Lake Kivu, tea and coffee plantations, and the rainforests of Nyungwe National Park. It also provides tourists a chance to enjoy the sandy beaches, the clean and fresh air, and a peaceful and quiet environment. There are also many different activities that pass along the trail, such as fishing, water sports, camping, etc.

The trail links a number of districts in western Rwanda from the north-west to the south-west and these include the Rubavu, Rutsiro, Karongi, Nyamasheke and Rusizi hiking through villages, numerous crops, towns, fishermen villages. The trail is full of adventurous activities.

NOTE: your tour starts from the moment we collect you from the airport or any other location to the time you depart, or we drop you to your hotel, you will be looked after by our team.

Day 1: Arriving in Kigali, Rwanda

After arriving in Kigali international airport, Our driver will welcome you in Rwanda and pick you from the airport to your hotel in Kigali and if time allows, do a Kigali city tour and spend your night in Kigali.

Day 2: Gisenyi to Cyimbiri

Start: Gisenyi

Destination: Cyimbiri

Distance: Approximately 18 km

Hiking Time: 5-6 hours

Morning:

Breakfast at your accommodation in Gisenyi.

Start your hike from Gisenyi, taking in the fresh morning air.

Trek alongside Lake Kivu, enjoying the beautiful lakeside views.

Afternoon:

Picnic lunch en route, with a chance to swim in designated safe areas.

Continue hiking; be introduced to rural Rwanda and its agriculture.

Evening:

Dinner and accommodation at Cyimbiri guesthouse.

Day 3: Cyimbiri to Kinunu

Start: Cyimbiri

Destination: Kinunu

Distance: Approximately 15 km

Hiking Time: 5-6 hours

Day 4: Kinunu to Bumba

Start: Kinunu

Destination: Bumba

Distance: Approximately 28.5 km

Day 11: Transfer from Kibuye to Kigali

After spending your night in Kamembe, and eating your breakfast, you will be transferred to Kigali from Cyangugu, a journey of about 6-7 hours driving for your flight back home.
