10 DAYS RWANDA CYCLING ADVENTURES

KIGALI - SORWATHE 61 km

The first day's ride is a tough introduction to riding in Africa as you are exploring the trail that starts from Kigali with 5km of climbing followed by a flat road. As you are riding up and down hills, you will be welcomed by kids running after you saying abanyamakuruse, a kinyarwanda word that means cyclists. The first day ride ends at Sorwathe a thea processing factory.

SORWATHE-LAKE RUHONDO 52 km

Start the ride early in the morning where you will cycle from Sorwathe to Ruhondo lake for 52 km cycling through tea plantations, villages, crops of beans, maize and banana plantations. Arriving at the shore of lake Ruhondo, you will find a boat waiting to take you to your hotel, a 3.5km boat tour. At the end you will enjoy a magical evening at my hill ecolodge with the view of Volcanoes National Park, a home of mountain gorillas.

LAKE BURERA TOUR 54.6 km

After eating your breakfast and packing your picnic lunch, A boat will be waiting to take you to the starting point. You will start the ride very early in the morning where you will cycle from Ruhondo lake to Burera beach resort for 54.6 kms cycling on the shores of lake Burera through villages, maize, beans, wheat, banana plantations, and eucalyptus plantation along the road. You will meet local people and experience the way they live.

BISOKE VOLCANO HIKE & TRANSFER TO GISENYI

In the morning, our driver will pick you from your hotel by 6:00 AM to Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi. The drive is 34.8 km and will take you one hour. From there the park guide will brief you before entering the park for hiking.

After hiking Bisoke Volcano, you will transfer to Musanze town from the park for your lunch in one of the restaurants in Musanze town. And after eating your lunch, you will drive for 1.5 hours to Gisenyi for your overnight stay getting ready for cycling the following days.

During your park visit, the bikes will be transported from Burera beach resort to Palm Garden resort in Gisenyi.

GISENYI-KIBUYE(CONGO-NILE TRAIL)

Along the world famous trail, the congo nile trail follows the divide between the vast nile river water and congo river water bassins. The 99 km long route takes you all the way along lake Kivu shores from Gisenyi to Kibuye through the districts of Rutsiro.

You will ride up and down hills on the foots of this chain of mountains crossing rivers and valleys enjoying the landscapes of Rwanda making it  the Land of a thousand hills. You will cycle through villages,crops, forests, coffee, banana and tea plantations.

GISENYI-KINUNU 40km

After eating your breakfast, Start the ride in the morning where you will cycle from Gisenyi to Kinunu for 41 kms cycling on the shores of lake Kivu through villages, coffee and banana plantations, at the end enjoy a magical evening at the water, visit the coffee washing station and spend the night there.

KINUNU-BUMBA 29km

Start off with early breakfast and with your packed lunch, jump back on your bike today and take on a hilly ride from  Kinunu biking around Lake Kivu, exploring fishing villages and interacting with local people along the way. Overnight at the Bumba camping site near Rutsiro district headquarter. Accommodation: Bumba guest house

Duration: 5-7 hours

BUMBA-KIBUYE 33km

Early breakfast at Bumba campsite with packed lunch begins your biking tour down and uphills for 17 km on dirty roads and 16 kms on tarmac road till Kibuye town, with very great panoramic views. On arrival, rest your weary legs and perhaps reward yourself with a refreshing drink and celebrate the tour’s accomplishments with your fellow cyclists.

Duration: 3-4 hours

After refreshment and eating your lunch in a restaurant in Kibuye, our driver will be ready to hit the 127 km road taking you to Kigali for about 3 hours.

DRIVE FROM KIBUYE TO KIGALI

Exploring Lake Kivu’s famous islands including Napoleon's Hat and Amahoro by boat enjoying the scenic views of rolling hills, terraced landscapes, and local communities as well as Interacting with local fishermen and observing their traditional fishing techniques, if opportunities are available.

DRIVE FROM KIBUYE TO KIGALI

Our driver will transfer you from Gisenyi to Kanombe  international airport in Kigali as we will be wishing you a safe flight back home with a lot of memories.
